Dar El Oued is a so called “Douar” and also the home to the shops founder Wahid’s Family, based in the Rif Mountain. A Douar is a small village that is sustaining itself through agricultural activities. Due to the daily struggle to make a living it’s often the case that education is neglected, especially for girls. The dedication of the Association Chayma is to support the education of girls in rural villages in Moroccos Rif Mountain. How? Financing the boarding school of girls most in need, financing students transportation from remote villages to school, working hand in hand with local authorities to foster education and improving the daily environtment and school life by building toilets, heaters (...). Therefor a share of each Tattoo done at 19:28 is going straight towards our Chayma Association!

Facts about girls education in Morocco:
26% of girls in rural locations are enrolled in preschool and primary school
39% of girls in rural locations are enrolled in secondary school
13% of girls in rural locations are enrolled in highschoool
74% of women ages 15-24 are literate,
and in certain rural areas up to 80% are illiterate.
Very few girls from the rural communities of the Rif Mountains get the opportunity of continuing their education beyond primary school.
Why?
The nearest secondary school is often a long walk away and parents are reluctant to let their girls walk alone to school.
A traditional, patriarchal society places values on a girl's role in a home - this point of view plus the lack of confidence on parents side towards existing facilities can decide over a girl's future.
